The Live/Whirled Concert Series at Perishable Theatre will showcase the creativity and instrumental brilliance of The Essential Quintet, under the direction of renown composer Steven Jobe. The group performs arrangements of American and European folk music and original compositions inspired by traditional styles. Bringing perspectives from a variety of musical backgrounds, the musicians seamlessly weave innovative ideas and improvisational spontaneity throughout their concerts.

The Essential Quintet is:

Steven Jobe (viola, hurdy-gurdy),

Ellen Santaniello (voice, percussion),

Cathy Clasper-Torch (violin),

Catherine Hawkes (recorder, mandolin),

Seth Gruenwald (cello).

The Live/Whirled Series features an inter-active “Act 2,” that involves the audience in the process of music-making. For this concert, the band will teach any audience members willing, the steps and lyrics of a traditional medieval round dance.
